Module 2: Word Knowledge Chart

 The word knowledge chart can be found on the link HERE!   The text that matches the word knowledge chart is from an online textbook used by LCPS. It is  Virginia Miller & Levine Biology.      I chose this strategy due to its effectiveness in multiple areas. It allows the teacher and the students to figure out what is already known about this specific topic. Students get the chance to show this by defining a specific vocabulary in biology, and they then have to provide an example. This strategy can help a teacher determine any misconceptions that students may have when it comes to specific terms. After the students read, they get a chance to see how they answered the question previously and be content with their answer if they understood the vocabulary well or they can choose to update based on the way the words were used within the text. Module 1: Anticipation Guide Blog

 The anticipation guide for my future class is pasted in the link below. It contains the lesson students will use while learning about the 8 characteristics of life in a biology classroom.  Characteristics of Life Anticipation Guide The article students will read during this lesson is linked in the assignment but can be found again below.  "8 Characteristics of Life"      My strategy of choice for this lesson is the anticipation guide. As a teacher, this can be used as a way to gauge prior knowledge in students, and have them tell you as the teacher was each statement means to them. At this point in the lesson it will be important to make sure the students understand that there are no incorrect answers. It is okay to say what you believe and even if it sounds silly coming out of your mouth, there will be room for growth later.
